UFCW 8-Golden State, UFCW Local 5 and UFCW Local 648, have continued joint negotiations with major supermarket employers in Northern California this month. Combined, these locals represent over 55,000 retail food workers throughout Bay Area, Central Valley, and Northern California.
Some progress has been made in recent weeks, and we have additional dates to bargain scheduled next week. The impact of new COVID variants has been felt on the front lines of this pandemic.
Everyone, most importantly the employers, should be grateful for the dedication and commitment retail grocery workers have demonstrated. Our members remain a vital link in the supply chain, providing stability for their community.
The commitment and sacrifices made throughout the pandemic must be rewarded. We expect the companies to be prepared to bargain in earnest so we can reach an agreement.
Solidarity with your Union will be the key to success in these negotiations. Remain resolute in your support for our negotiating team and we will keep you informed of developments as they occur.
Stay strong and stand united and remember … Solidarity Works!
