Ours is a big Union. We represent more than 30,000 members employed at a wide range of workplaces, from supermarkets to retail drug stores, from meatpacking plants to wineries and distilleries, from hospitals and medical offices to cannabis shops, and more.
All told, our hardworking negotiators, District Union Representatives and office staffers negotiate and monitor approximately 300 contracts between UFCW 8-Golden State and our members’ employers.
Fortunately, the quality of our UFCW 8 team is second to none. Whether you work in a plant with several hundred employees or a small office with just five people in it, you can be sure to get a quick and authoritative response to any questions or concerns. Having said this, it is important to add that the Union is composed of all of us, and that each one of us performs a crucial role in making our organization the best it can be.
Here’s how you can participate in winning the outstanding contracts with superior wages, benefits and working conditions:
- Be proud and outspoken about your Union and what it means for you and your coworkers.
- Volunteer for Union activities such as rallies, informational picket lines and handbilling.
- Be informed about your contract and vigilant about its enforcement. Your District Union Representative or Shop Steward, if you have one, will be available to help.
- Disregard disinformation and anti-Union rhetoric, whether it comes from management, your cable news network, social media or anywhere else. Rely on authoritative Union sources like the Voice of Action and our website and social media platforms for accurate information.

- Finally, when your Union calls on you to vote on a contract ratification or to authorize a potential labor action, be sure to show up and do your part.
