May 13, 2026 – UFCW locals in Southern California met with Albertsons/Vons and Ralphs for two days of bargaining this week. Unfortunately, the companies made little movement on the issues which matter most to pharmacists and the patients we serve.
We have made it clear again and again: safe staffing is a top priority. This is not only a workplace issue — it is a patient care issue. Pharmacists know firsthand how understaffing impacts medication safety and the quality care our communities rely on every day.
Members were recently joined by customers, co-workers and pharmacists in front of the Albertsons in Buena Park. The turnout was strong, visible and powerful. Together, we spoke with patients and surveyed them about wait times, staffing conditions and medication safety. Actions will continue next week, and one thing is already clear: patients are just as frustrated with understaffed pharmacies as we are.
The companies are currently offering additional bargaining dates of June 30 and July 1 and their delay shows why our continued engagement is necessary. The more united we are, the stronger our position becomes at the bargaining table.
Please continue wearing your buttons and lanyards, and keep talking with patients about the challenges impacting them as pharmacy customers. Every conversation helps build support and shows the companies we are united for a contract which reflects our value and protects patient care.
In the meantime, contact your District Union Representative with any questions and together we will prove Solidarity Works!
