Meetings with Raley’s are scheduled to resume at the end of this month. We previously exchanged proposals and discussed details of agreements our members ratified with other major supermarket employers in Northern California.
“We hope the company will come to the bargaining table prepared to reach an agreement which rewards the hard work of our members,” President Jacques Loveall said. “The employees’ dedication to excellence is responsible for Raley’s success through the years.”
Workers at other Union supermarkets in the region have already seen wage increases and benefit improvements. In recent weeks we have seen an increase in members inquiring about job opportunities at Safeway, Save Mart and other chains where workers have ratified contracts.
Many guarantees and perks come with working under a Union contract. However, an often-overlooked benefit is the portability of medical and pension benefits between employers in UFCW 8’s Northern California retail jurisdiction. When Union members move between Bel Air, Lucky, Raley’s, Nob Hill, Safeway, Save Mart or Vons without a significant lapse in employment, their health and retirement benefits continue seamlessly.
We remain committed to reaching an agreement our members will be proud to ratify.
Standing together, we will prove yet again, Solidarity Works!
