UFCW 8-Golden State Announces UFCW Members Working at Save Mart Will Receive Additional Pay During COVID-19 Crisis

After several days of discussion with Save Mart, we are pleased to announce UFCW members at the company’s grocery chains will start receiving an extra $2.50 per hour, retroactive to March 8, for all hours worked up to 40 hours per week.

Those working beyond 40 hours per week will earn an extra $3.50 per hour for all hours worked over 40 hours per week.

The additional pay applies to workers at Save Mart, Food Maxx, Lucky, Maxx Value and Yosemite Warehouse locations throughout Northern and Southern California and is the highest appreciation pay with the earliest retroactivity of any unionized supermarket chain in California.

Save Mart is paying these enhanced wages to show its appreciation for our members’ heroic efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. The bonuses will continue throughout the duration of the crisis.

Members will receive the first three weeks of retroactive pay on March 30. Going forward, they will receive their regular payroll each week and subsequent bonus checks will be paid each Monday.

“We are continuing to discuss other measures to reward and protect workers who interact with the public,” UFCW 8-Golden State President Jacques Loveall said.

“Our members have stepped up to provide stability and food security to their community during this crisis,” President Loveall continued. “They work every shift, from the early morning hours until late into the night.

“We urge the public to please take a moment to appreciate these workers as they fulfill the vital needs of our communities,” Loveall said.
