The UFCW International Union has a NEW Discount College Program, replacing the prior program. Those previously enrolled in the prior program can continue, however, the fall semester will be the last one available through the old program.
This new discount program expands UFCW members’ access to a broader selection of participating colleges as well as degree programs spanning from certificates and associate to bachelor’s degrees. New to the program, we will also be introducing master’s degrees, providing even more opportunities for participants.
The UFCW has partnered with EBS Union College Benefit and EDVANCE to facilitate members selection and admissions process. There are multiple schools and degree options with each partner above.
The partners will help members narrow down what school is the best fit for them, evaluate any existing transcripts to determine if earned credits can be applied to their new degree, and offer other support services as members move forward with their education.

Why is the old college benefit program no longer available?
Our partner school, Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC), has been in ongoing negotiations with the U.S. Department of Education about the structure of the Free College Benefit and has fought hard on behalf of all students to continue these benefits. Unfortunately, the Department of Education will no longer allow EGCC to offer the Free College Benefit for new students beginning in the Fall semester of 2023.
What can I do with my existing credits from EGCC?
The credits you earned at EGCC can potentially count towards your degree at another school. As each school has its own credit transfer criteria, your admissions counselors can help you determine if these credits can be counted at your new school.
Can I finish my degree at EGCC?
Yes, although the EGCC is no longer a participating school for our union college benefit, you can still attend the school outside of the program.
Who is eligible for the Program?
UFCW members and their family members can use the Program. Eligible family members include members’ spouses, children, dependents, siblings, parents/in-laws, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
I’m no longer a UFCW member, can I still use the Program?
Unfortunately, the discounted tuition rates are exclusively for UFCW union members and their families.

Want to earn your GED?
UFCW members can take General Equivalency Diploma (GED) classes for free through Essential GED. The GED program offers a customized learning plan to successfully prepare yourself to pass the GED test, regardless of when you last went to school.
