September 4, 2024 — We have been informed by Save Mart about their decision to close the Yosemite Wholesale Warehouse in Merced, CA. We have had some initial discussions with the company and have a meeting this week to discuss the full impact of the closure.
Under California law, the company is required to provide a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice in the event of a mass layoff, plant closure, or significant reduction in work hours. This notice must be issued at least 60 days in advance, providing employees with time to prepare for the upcoming changes. We have been told the facility will remain operational until early November 2024.
This news is understandably concerning for all affected members, and we want to assure you we are taking immediate action to address the impact of the company’s decision on our members.
Your Union is committed to ensuring that every member is treated fairly during this transition. Our priority is to explore all available solutions to mitigate the effects on our members and provide any support services which may be available.
There are various resources to support workers affected by layoffs. We will provide detailed information about these resources in our upcoming communications to ensure that all members are fully informed of their options.
We will continue to fight for your rights and work tirelessly to ensure that every member receives the support they need during this challenging time. If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please contact your District Union Representative.
