UFCW Members at Stater Bros. are United with Their Sisters and Brothers at Albertsons, Vons and Ralphs – May 22, 2025

Yesterday marked our seventh bargaining session with Stater Bros., where much of the discussion centered on subcontracting—an issue which strikes at the heart of members’ job security. The company is demanding language which would allow subcontractors to replace members work, which is unacceptable.

Kroger and Albertsons acknowledged the importance of protecting members’ work early in negotiations, agreeing to our proposed contract language on February 27, 2025, during our third session. Stater Bros.’ refusal to do the same reveals a stark lack of respect for the workers who keep their stores running.

Even more concerning, the company failed to present a single proposal yesterday. Instead, our brief meeting involved repeated questions on previously discussed topics, including health benefits, and a retreat from earlier positions. At the close of the session, Stater Bros. bluntly stated they do not intend to continue meaningful bargaining until Kroger and Albertsons reach an agreement.

It’s imperative Stater Bros. knows we stand together with our sisters and brothers at Albertsons and Kroger, and we will do what it takes to get the contract we deserve. Their fight is our fight—the outcome of their contract will impact our members at Stater Bros. directly. We must be ready to show all three companies the power of our collective voice.

Ayer tuvo lugar nuestra séptima sesión de negociación con Stater Bros., en la que gran parte del debate se centró en la subcontratación, una cuestión que afecta directamente a la seguridad laboral de los miembros. La empresa exige una cláusula que permita a los subcontratistas sustituir a los miembros, lo cual es inaceptable.

Kroger y Albertsons reconocieron la importancia de proteger el trabajo de los miembros al inicio de las negociaciones y aceptaron la cláusula contractual que propusimos el 27 de febrero de 2025, durante nuestra tercera sesión. La negativa de Stater Bros. a hacer lo mismo pone de manifiesto una flagrante falta de respeto hacia los trabajadores que mantienen en funcionamiento sus tiendas.

Aún más preocupante es que la empresa no presentó ayer ni una sola propuesta. En cambio, nuestra breve reunión consistió en preguntas repetidas sobre temas ya discutidos, como las prestaciones sanitarias, y en un retroceso con respecto a posiciones anteriores. Al término de la sesión, Stater Bros. declaró sin rodeos que no tiene intención de continuar con una negociación significativa hasta que Kroger y Albertsons lleguen a un acuerdo.

Es imperativo que Stater Bros. sepa que estamos unidos a nuestras compañeras y compañeros de Albertsons y Kroger, y que haremos lo que sea necesario para conseguir el contrato que nos merecemos. Su lucha es nuestra lucha: el resultado de su contrato afectará directamente a nuestros miembros de Stater Bros. Debemos estar preparados para mostrar a las tres empresas el poder de nuestra voz colectiva.
