Safeway/Vons, Stater Bros. and Raley’s/Bel Air/Nob Hill are Next
Contract negotiations are in full swing with Safeway/Vons, Stater Bros. and Raley’s/Bel Air/Nob Hill. It is important at this time to reflect on the significance of our collective efforts and the victories we achieve when we stand together. The same is true for our members who work in the many other industries where we have contracts under review and in active negotiations.
In late January, members working at Save Mart ratified a strong contract with substantial raises, improved health care and enhanced pension benefits. This triumph was the result of protracted and complex negotiations with the employer. The true driving force behind its success was the unwavering solidarity of our members.
Months before the contract expired, our Union members at Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Foods Co., Lucky and Rite Aid exemplified remarkable unity and discipline. They refused to entertain rumors and made it clear that they stood firmly with their Union. This steadfast commitment sent a powerful message to the employers, who came to understand our members know their own worth and the value of their contributions to their companies’ success.
This solidarity fortified our negotiating position and led to a successful outcome.
Let’s carry forward this spirit of unity as we proceed with our negotiations with the supermarket companies and the many other industries and businesses we represent. Our strength lies in our collective resolve, so it’s crucial we continue to support one another and stay focused on our shared goals.
We must remain vigilant and ensure our voices are heard, demonstrating once again we are a force to be reckoned with.
Together, we will continue to secure fair contracts reflecting our contributions and the improvements we deserve.
Together, we can do so much!
Together, we will show the employers and the world…
Solidarity Works!
