UFCW 8-Golden State and UFCW Local 5 bargained in unity this week as negotiations resumed with Raley’s Supermarkets. Additional dates are planned in the coming weeks.

Raley’s, which also operates Bel Air and Nob Hill Foods stores throughout Northern California and Nevada, recently completed the purchase Bashas’, a grocer formerly headquartered in Arizona with $2.3 billion in sales reported in 2020.

UFCW Locals 5, 8 and 648 also bargained with Safeway through the evening and into the early morning on Thursday, March 24. Significant movement was made in protecting the quality of our members’ medical and pension benefits.

“We must address the need for substantial wage increases while also preserving medical and retirement benefits if we are to achieve a settlement,” said President Jacques Loveall. “All three of these goals are critical to the long-term needs of our members.”

Additional meeting dates are scheduled with Safeway next week.
