bonuses and benefits, and enhance workplace standards

ROSEVILLE, CALIF. (Oct. 16, 2015) — UFCW 8-Golden State members voted overwhelmingly to ratify new contracts with Safeway and Vons in Northern and Central California.

The four-year agreement with Safeway, enjoyed by approximately 9,000 workers at 130 Safeway stores, as well as retirees, includes:

  • One year of retroactive wage increases
  • Three years of additional wage increases and bonuses
  • Protection and funding of health care and pension benefits
  • Enhanced workplace standards

The separate four-year agreement with Vons accomplishes similar protections and enhancements for approximately 500 Union employees at several Vons stores.

“We are very proud of this agreement,” said Jacques Loveall, president of UFCW 8-Golden State. “These new contracts secure the highest wages, the finest benefits and the most generous pension plans in the grocery industry.

“Once again, our members proved Solidarity Works.”

Contract negotiations are continuing between the Union and representatives from Save Mart Supermarkets, Raley’s Supermarkets, Bel Air Markets and Nob Hill Foods.

UFCW 8-Golden State represents workers in several industries through much of Northern, Central and Southern California.
