You may have read a letter from your employer suggesting you should have had a chance to vote on a recent agreement supported by other local unions. Let me be clear: my responsibility to you is to bring you the best possible contract I can for you to vote on.
After careful review, we concluded the health care and retirement plans under the Southern California agreement are inadequately funded through the end of the contract.
Our analysis shows a stronger path forward is by bargaining alongside your sisters and brothers to the north. This covers 25,000 members working at Albertsons, Vons and Safeway locations from the grapevine up to the Oregon/California border.
For the first time since our merger, we have an opportunity to begin aligning your benefits with Northern California and that’s worth the effort.
There’s been a lot of noise and confusion. We want you to know that your union remains laser-focused on your economic interests. Your employer, of course, is laser-focused on theirs.
