UFCW 8-Golden State is the only UFCW Local Union in California with members covered by Northern, Central and Southern California retail food contracts.
In the past, these contracts have expired at different times. But right now, something rare is happening—the contracts are open at the same time, giving us a chance to begin to make your contract more aligned with UFCW members working at Albertsons, Safeway and Vons in Central and Northern California.
Other Southern California UFCW Locals have reached a tentative agreement with Albertsons, Safeway, and Vons. However, we believe the company’s proposals don’t fully meet our key goal for you and your coworkers.
For the first time, UFCW 8-Golden State has a unique opportunity to begin to elevate your contract—seeking to bring Kern, Mono and Inyo County members closer to the gains achieved across Central and Northern California. We’re pressing forward at the bargaining table with unwavering focus to make that happen.
You will now be part of a bargaining unit from the grapevine to the Oregon/California border.
Meanwhile, additional bargaining sessions will take place on July 8 and 9 with strike votes for UFCW 8-Golden State members coinciding with those dates. Members of UFCW Locals 5 and 648 in Northern and Central California will also be voting to authorize a strike.
Your leadership team is fully committed to winning the best deal possible for all UFCW 8-Golden State members. We’re fighting for:
- Stronger retirement benefits
- Better health care
- Meaningful wage increases
- Common expiration date with Central and Northern California

UFCW 8-Golden State es el único sindicato local de UFCW en California cuyos miembros están cubiertos por los contratos de venta minorista de alimentos del norte, centro y sur de California.
