When working people gather in break rooms, living rooms, houses of worship, restaurants, taverns or anywhere else they may find themselves, they talk about their lives, their families and, ultimately, their jobs.
Wherever and whenever this happens, it’s easy to identify those who are Union members, especially members of UFCW 8-Golden State.
Workers who don’t have the benefits of a Union-negotiated contract tend to air their concerns about mounting health care costs, inappropriate and illegal actions by their employers, favored treatment given to newer employees, and other shortcomings at their workplaces. They don’t have trained Union professionals to assist them and are left to suffer when their needs are disregarded and ignored.
In contrast, if Union members, and particularly members of UFCW 8, encounter such problems, they have a grievance process to resolve issues and can rely on their Union to help them put an end to unfair treatment right away.
UFCW 8-Golden State’s experienced and well-trained District Union Representatives are always on call to assist members in upholding their high standards of wages, benefits and working conditions. Additionally, many workplaces have Union Shop Stewards who can help their co-workers resolve small problems before they become big ones.
As a result, Union members are more apt to talk about aspects of their working lives they appreciate.
Keep this in mind when you’re watching the Super Bowl with friends on Feb. 8. Those players on the field are Union members, too, as are the field officials, camera operators, stadium groundskeepers and food service workers. The people who make the footballs are also UFCW members!
It doesn’t matter where you work, your job is better when you have a Union.
On behalf of the leadership of UFCW 8-Golden State, we wish you and your loved ones the best in the year ahead, and we will back up our wishes with action whenever it becomes necessary to make your job the best it can be.
Solidarity works!
