Secretary-Treasurer's Report

Caring for Each Other as the Seasons Change

As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, we find ourselves at a seasonal crossroads. Fall is a time of transition — of harvest, reflection and preparation. And just as the world around us shifts, so too do the demands on our bodies, our minds and our spirits.

In the industries we serve, the pace rarely slows and the public’s demand for our work is higher than ever. But behind every shift, every order, every checkout line, there’s a person — someone juggling work, family, health and the quiet pressures that often go unseen.

Let’s name it: this work is hard. It’s physically demanding, emotionally draining and often underappreciated. And as the season changes, so do the challenges. Cold and flu season ramps up, holiday stress looms and fatigue can settle in deeper than we expect.

That’s why now, more than ever, we need to care for each other.

Our Union isn’t just here to negotiate contracts or file grievances. We’re here to support our members and our families. Whether it’s connecting members to mental health resources, advocating for better scheduling or working conditions, or simply checking in with a coworker who seems worn down, we show up for one another.

In the coming months, I encourage every member to lean into this spirit of solidarity. Take a moment to ask how someone’s really doing. Share information about wellness programs. And if you’re struggling, reach out to a co-worker, a steward and/or your District Union Rep. You are not alone.

You might consider saving the resources listed on page 17 in case you, a family member or a co-worker needs one of those phone numbers.

We are stronger together, not just at the bargaining table, but in break rooms, parking lots and quiet conversations.

Let’s make the 2025 Holiday Season one of care, compassion, and collective strength.

And always remember, Solidarity Works!
