UFCW 8 - Butte County Update - Nov 15, 2018
In support of those affected by the Camp Fire in Butte County, UFCW 8-Golden State has pledged to match up to $50,000 towards the Disaster Relief Fund. We have over 70 active members who have been either reported by Cal Fire, their employer or the member that they have lost their home.
All members at Save Mart have been accounted for. Safeway is still in the process of accounting for all employees, at last report 5 employees were still unaccounted for.
According to reports released Wednesday evening, the Camp Fire has burned 138,000 acres and is 35 percent contained. There have been 56 confirmed fatalities and over 10,000 structures destroyed.
“I’d like to thank those who have stepped forward to help our members,” said UFCW 8-Golden State President Jacques Loveall. “We are family and we’ll stand by them, helping lift one another up, during this unprecedented challenge to so many families.”

We have close to 200 members who live in the fire zone and currently have over 70 active members who were either reported by Cal Fire, their employer or the member that they have lost their home.
Paradise, CA has a large retiree community and there could be an equal number of retirees affected.
These numbers are expected to rise as Cal Fire is still going through the region. Residents and members haven’t been allowed back into the area yet.
We’re working with local Unions, employers and other community groups to help get our members the resources they need.

The Camp Fire in Butte County has destroyed thousands of homes, displaced members from their jobs, and had a devastating impact on our members in the area.
Your representatives are doing everything possible to provide assistance to our Union sisters and brothers in their time of crisis and pain, including providing staff and necessary resources.
