Q:What is MedExpert?

A: MedExpert is a new Union-negotiated benefit that will ensure that our members and their families get the best possible health care information and advice. With MedExpert, you can contact a doctor with questions about any health problem.
Q: How did you come up with this concept? A: For the last three years, finding solutions to maximize our medical benefits has been one of this Union’s top priorities. We consult with industry experts around the country, and even the world, looking for cost-effective ways to protect the hard-earned benefits of our members. Protecting the wellbeing of our members is always a major concern. Health care is a significant issue for all Unions throughout the country. We’ve always led the way, so when we heard about something that can add to the benefits we already have, we jumped at the chance to make MedExpert available.
Q: How does MedExpert help? A: We all know what it’s like to sit in a doctor’s office and listen to medical jargon and concepts we’ve never heard of. When we get home, we might think of a dozen or so questions we wish we’d asked. That’s where MedExpert comes in. MedExpert will answer questions about your treatment or medications. And, if your MedExpert doctor can’t answer your questions immediately, there are specialists throughout the world who can. Better access to information about health care is another reason why “Solidarity Works!”
Q: Is everyone eligible for MedExpert? A: At present, active and retired Food and Drug Division members receiving benefits from the Northern California Health and Welfare Trust Fund are eligible. Our goal is to expand this benefit to other trust funds so everyone can be eligible for MedExpert.
