SENIOR EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Give the Gift of Good Jobs — Shop Union!
Give yourself a gift this holiday season –– shop union! Patronizing non-union stores threatens union market share and the living standards of union members’ wages and benefits –– your wages and benefits. But when you buy union, you take responsibility for what your dollars do. When you buy a union-made product, you are protecting the jobs of the men and women who made it. You are also supporting a company that gives its employees the respect they deserve. Your shopping dollars can support people who earn good pay and benefits or they can support companies that exploit political prisoners, child laborers, terrorized factory workers –– who knows? It’s your choice. I hope you’ll make the right one.
Easier than you think
Shopping union can be easier than you think. In fact, many members of UFCW 8 work in supermarkets, drug |

stores and other retail establishments that are stocked with holiday foods, kitchen utensils, small appliances, sporting goods and other gift items. Moreover, many poultry, beef, wine and distilled products and snack items enjoyed during the holidays are produced by members of UFCW 8! You can take a step further and buy non-food products that are manufactured by union labor. That’s not so hard, either. The first thing to do is look for the “Union Made” label. You can also visit TheUnionShop.org, where you will find all sorts of union-made clothing and accessories for men, women and children.
Buy American
When you buy American, you take a stand against outsourcing our good jobs to Third World countries. You support America’s industrial base, which provides

livelihoods for millions of American union members. Finally, remember to never shop at stores like Wal-Mart. This anti-union company is still out to destroy the jobs of every union wage-earner in the retail industry, and that includes you! Shopping union is more than a way to feel good about yourself. It is an effective way to protect the American way of life.
